Nursery Unit

We have a seventy eight place Nursery unit at Llanedeyrn Primary School.  Thirty-nine children attend each morning or afternoon.  Children are admitted the term after their third birthday.

Opening Times:    9.00am - 11.30am
                             1.00pm - 3.30pm

The nursery is staffed by qualified, experienced professionals.
The teacher in charge is Mrs. Linda Owen, and the two Senior Teaching Assistants are
Mrs. D. Lawrence and Mrs. S. Lane.

Parents are actively encouraged to participate in the Nursery's activities.
Some help in the unit, many work at home on school based activities.
Others attend Parent and Toddler group - 'Little Stars' on Friday mornings (9.00am - 11.30am).

We also run a very successful 'Language and Play' Course for parents who are interested in learning more about the way their children learn in school, provided by the "Basic Skills Agency".  It is organised in a series of six workshops and it gives parents a valuable opportunity to work with their child at school and at home.

Parents are always welcome to visit the Nursery before placing their child's name on the waiting list.

The Nursery has also started the Busy Bees Brunch Club which, for £2 per session, allows morning and afternoon Nursery Children and Reception children to come along and have a healthy lunch in a learning environment.

Latest information regarding the Nursery Unit can be found in the Miniature Vine, the Nursery's very own newspaper.  A version of which can be found on the 'Mini Grapevine' page on this site.

At our Nursery we aim to provide  a happy, valuable and rewarding experience for pre-school children. Every child is encouraged to develop intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically in a stimulating environment through purposeful and structured play.

Structured play activities

Painting

The Nursery is organised into a number of different play areas.

These include a writing corner, home corner, story corner, maths and computer area, shop, art and craft area and sand and water area.

Water play

Outdoor play

There is also an outdoor play area which is enclosed and secure, separate from the infant playground - outside play is always supervised by two members of staff.

After her son's very first day in Reception, a Mum asked:
"What did you learn today?"  To which her son replied:
"I learnt how to miss my Mum."
